Where I went #

Krua Kham Chanod’ (ครัวกัญ คำชะโนด) is located just outside the Kham Chanot Wang Nakhin (forest temple). It is only 200 m from the hustle and bustle, but feels much more remote than that.

I intended to only stop by for a light snack, but the friendliness of the owner and the incredible looking food made me stay for a little bit more…

What I liked #

  • It is genuinely top-tier food quality, in a small and unassuming setting.
  • The staff were extremely kind and would bend over backwards to help out.
  • They offer a very broad range of Northern Thai dishes.

What I ate #

I initially stopped off for a simple snack and a drink in this hot weather.

Using my poor Thai, I attempted to ask what she enjoys eating and would recommend. She flicked through the menu, showing a few options, and at the last one (tom yum goong) I nodded and asked for one, please.

However, what came out was ALL the options she had recommended :o

The som tum and tom yum goong were some of the best examples of these dishes I have tasted. The tom yum in particular had my tongue finding new tastes in each spoonful. I was not shortchanged on the prawns either, with at least half a dozen large and meaty prawns buried in the soup!

While I could not finish the rice, she did pack it up, so I could take it home for lunch tomorrow!
